** Please note that the book order form that was sent home today in Thursday Folders is due on the 16th of September. (not the 9th of September)Sorry about the mistake.**

Today was another busy day in room 302!! We started the day off with handwriting. Today our focus was on the letter Dd. We are trying real hard to use the top, middle and bottom line while writing. Those lowercase "d's" are tricky!! We need to remember to start them on the middle line(like the lowercase "a") then come up to the top, down to the bottom and then a monkey tail at the bottom line. The upper case "D" starts at the top line. (These were much easier for us!)

We have also learned how to sign the letters "a, c, d & o. You should ask to see what each of the letters look like in sign language.

We have been discussing rhyming words in calendar. Today we made a list of rhyming words. Look at the list of words and see if you could add more words.

This week in science we have been working on an experiment that involves gummy bears!! We looked at the gummy bears and described what they looked like. Then, we predicted what would happen if we placed them in the sunlight. We predicted that they would melt if we put them outside in the sun. Our prediction was correct! We asked ourselves why they melted and as a class we decided it was because of the heat of the sun. The gummy bears were melted into a goo of bears, but I wonder what would happen if we left them out in the sun for more then just one day. Would they turn into liquid? Or back into the bear shape? Hmmmmmm...

(before & after )

Then we went back into our science journals and recorded our observations. We are becoming such little scientists!!

We were working so hard they didn't notice me taking their pictures!!

Rainy Day Wednesday

What a day!! I did not think that it would ever stop raining today. Good thing it stopped just in time for dismissal. I hope you and your family were able to stay safe and dry.
This week in math we have been discussing sorting. We have decided that there are many ways to sort. We can sort by color, size and shape. Look at the ways that we sorted with our friends at our table!
Elena sorted by shape.

Joanna sorted by shape
and color.

Genevieve sorted by size.

Danny & David were working hard!! Way to go boys

Thanks Evan & Wyatt for sorting the red and black cards. We also sorted the cards with red hearts and the cards without red hearts. Are there other ways we can sort the deck?

Day 11!!

WOW!! We made it through another day of working hard in the classroom. We started Star of the Week today. Evan was our first star!! He did a great job being the line leader and helping out with calendar. Good job Evan!!
Thank you to all the parents that helped their student with their weekend journal. I saw some great pictures and writing. Keep up the good work!! Remember that your child can draw a picture and you can dictate or they can draw a picture and write about the picture. We are really working on details in our drawings. (This will help us become better writers!)
We were suppose to have a bus evacuation drill today, but was cancelled due to the weather. Please let your child know that it will be rescheduled for Monday. Many of the students were worried that the bus was going to be in a real accident. No worries! The bus is parked in the back of the school and this is only drill. We will practice leaving from the front and back door incase of an emergency.
Today we started Literacy centers. Everyone did such a great job staying in their assigned center. Tomorrow everyone will rotate to a new center. This week we are making alphabet arcs, reading books in the classroom library, make letters out of play doh & working together in puzzles. Way to go guys!!

I am so proud of our class!! Every student has come a long way in a short amount of time. Keep it guys!!

What a busy day!!!

We had a very busy day in kindergarten today!! We went to the library and Mrs. Biamont and Mrs. Yale taught use how to use the library. Next week we will check a book out. We are so excited to check books out. Our class will go to the library once a week and return the book the following week.

This week we celebrated Avena's 5th birthday!! Happy birthday Avena!!

Today we read the book A House for Hermit Crab. In the book it discusses the months of the year. As a whole class we put the months of the year in order.

In math we made another graph, but this time we graphed our eye color. We had lots of friends with brown eyes. Look at some of the facts that we were able to gather from our graph!

We are still working on the types of weather and what each of the types look like. The vocabulary words that we are using are: overcast, sunny, windy, snowy, foggy and rainy. We have been using these words to describe the weather in the morning and in the afternoon. Today was a great way to compare sunny and rainy!! Try to stay dry and I will see you tomorrow night at curriculum night!! (This is a night that is very informative to parents. Most children find it very hard to be quiet during the presentation. )
