Bugs Homework

BUG HOMEWORK
Return on or before Monday, May 6th.
We will begin studying about insects.  We are going to be voting on whether or not we want to save or stomp the bugs.  Your homework is to make a poster (will be provided and sent home tomorrow) on why you think we should save or stomp the bugs (you may have a poster with half save and half stomp).  Please have your child draw pictures of the bugs and you may help them write why.  Please send this back by Monday, May 6th .  Have Fun!

1/2 and Whole

Yesterday our class was introduced to 1/2 and whole during math time.  We used food to help us understand the difference.  Is there a better way?? We used crackers and oreos in whole group and then we cut bread to make two separate pieces.

Cowboy Writing

This week and next we are discussing Texas.  Yesterday we read a story Why Cowboys Sleep with Their Boots On.  We thought it was hilarious! We wrote our own stories about cowboys wearing their boots to sleep.
Here we are working hard to get those silly stories written down.

Miracle wrote "The cowboy put boots on so his feet would not stink."

Jude wrote "The cowboy put his boots on so his feet don't get wet."

Parts of Plants

This week in science we are discussing the parts of a plant. (seed, roots, stem, leaves & flower)  Today we went to different tables and put together pictures of flowers.  We decided as a class that all the parts of a plant are important in order for a plant to grow.

We also learned a new song!

The Parts of a Plant
(the tune is to Head, shoulders, knees and toes)

Do you know the parts of plants, parts of plants?
Do you know the parts of plants, parts of plants?
All kinds of plants that grow and grow.
Do you know the parts of plants, parts of plants?

The roots hold the plant in place, plant in place.
The roots hold the plant in place, plant in place.
The roots store food and water too.
The roots hold the plant in place, plant in place.

The stem moves water up the plant, up the plant.
The stem moves water up the plant, up the plant.
The stem brings water to the leaves.
The stem moves water up the plant, up the plant.

The leaves soak up the sun, soak up the sun.
The leaves soak up the sun, soak up the sun.
The sun helps the plant to grow and grow.
The leaves soak up the sun, soak up the sun.

Capacity

Today we practiced filling containers of different sizes using a variety of materials.  We had to guess how many scoops would fill a container.  The materials that we used were fruit loops, beans and rice.
We decided that it would take more scoops of rice then fruit loops to fill any of the containers.
